Meet the Moment: Answer the Call

Every day the conflict in the middle east magnifies the risks and costs of dependence on fossil fuels.  Tomorrow the annual Earth Hour challenges us all again to a worldwide reflection & action 8:30-9:30 pm local time.  It falls this year on a No Kings Day of action and just after a major report on Climate impacts from the U.N. What can one hour of action today, tomorrow – everyday do?

If we listen to the leaders who are willing to speak – they tell us that our individual actions make a difference. These actions also empower us to demand change from policy makers.  This is in our hands!  If we act together it is not too late to impact the future for our children!

On March 23rd the UN Secretary-General AntĂłnio Guterres called for urgent action.  He said the planet is  “being pushed beyond its limits,” and warned that key climate indicators are “flashing red”.   Citing the  World Meteorological Organization State of the Global Climate report 2025 he suggests that the planet is nearing a “state of climate emergency” with far-reaching consequences for food systems, health, and global stability.  Key highlights from the statement and report include:

  • Record Imbalance: The climate is more out of balance than at any time in recorded history, with excessive heat accumulation.
  • Unprecedented Heat: The past 11 years (2015-2025) are officially the hottest on record.
  • Red Alert Indicators: Key indicators—greenhouse gas levels, ocean temperatures, sea-level rise, and glacier melt—are “flashing red”.
  • Call to Action: Guterres urged that we must “accelerate a just transition to renewable energy” to avoid the most catastrophic scenarios.

So…Make your voice heard on CLIMATE

Bring your climate sign to the No Kings March (More details here)– Local organizers are leading a bike group across the causeway to join the Yolo to Sacramento March! Make sure the most vulnerable to climate disasters won’t be forgotten!  Climate emergencies are the biggest reason we have millions of people on the move around the world.  Decades of Climate programs and environmental policies are systematically being dismantled endangering our children and their futures!
