Homeowners, energy advisors and local contractors will be on site at four locations in Davis to advise neighbors on how they too can move forward now on their energy efficiency and climate resilience projects for their homes.  In this first set of mini tours the homes are located in West and East Davis neighborhoods.

Some of their stories have already been featured in previous Cool Davis blog posts like:

Get the list of homes and be on our list for future tours. Also on site will be information about the City of Davis new Home Energy Score Pilot program and other Cool Solutions. Choose a home near you, come ask questions, talk to owners who have made these changes exhibiting home electrification in the neighborhood.

Featured homes are in various stages of electrification.  Some households have completed the process of retrofitting all systems to remove natural gas, others are still one or two steps away from that goal. While for all these homeowners these changes have taken 5 to 10 years to fully implement their goals, they will tell you it is never too late to get started. Whether on your first big project or the last one to reach your goals there may still be time and rebates or tax credits available to help

The homes on exhibit feature systems upgrades like:

  • Replacement of natural gas heating with mini-split and/or ducted heat pump electric systems.
  • Replacement of natural gas stoves or cooktops with electric induction devices.
  • Replacement of natural gas hot water heaters with electric heat pump systems.

Other upgrades that have provided dramatic cost savings, comfort and reduction in fossil fuel emissions:

  • Solar installations covering large portions of the electric load
  • Battery systems to manage home energy time of use
  • Enhanced insulation
  • Window replacement
  • Smart panels
  • Electric vehicle home charging

The City of Davis Home Energy Score Program is launching this month.  Get more information to apply! More information at these events on November 8th. 50 eligible homes will be assessed ahead of the State Home Energy Score program that will start  in 2026.

Cool Davis Make A Plan Home Energy Advising volunteers will be providing materials and advice about moving forward on your projects. This and other advising events will be happening through the end of the year.
