Have you been thinking that you want to reduce your energy use or your household GHG emissions, but you’re bogged down by unanswered questions?

Well, now is the time to act because some of the largest financial incentives are about to disappear. Congress has decided to end the household federal tax credits and rebate programs on December 31, 2025. After that, federal tax credits will disappear. The good news is that there is still time to take advantage of federal funds and California state rebates.

Cool Davis is here to help. Our website home energy page contains lots of information on what you can do to reduce your carbon footprint. We’ve also sponsored in-person workshops that make energy experts and contractors available to people like yourself who need questions answered.

In July, Cool Davis held a 4-hour open advising session in the Cool Davis office. People who were just starting out and people trying to decide next steps mingled with energy professionals in lively conversations around a table. Reading websites is OK, but participants said that having the opportunity for one-on-one conversations about their particular circumstances was really valuable.

At our October 9th hybrid session at the Wildhorse Clubhouse and online 10+ households came asking questions to guide their current projects and decision-making.  Local contractors and energy experts were available to answer questions. Some homeowner energy champions who have completed their own projects offered peer to peer experience and advice.

The next Cool Davis Make a Plan Advising Session is coming on October 25th.

Come learn how you can take the next step on your electrification path and cash in on federal and state incentives. Energy experts, contractors, and people with first-hand experience will answer your questions on heat pumps, induction stoves, solar panels, EV chargers, and full home electrification options plus current tax credits and deadlines.

Make a Plan Advising Session

Date: Saturday, October 25th
Time: 11 am – 1 pm
Location: Cool Davis Office & Zoom – 720 Olive Dr, Suite D

You don’t have to completely rebuild your house to make a climate difference. There are lots of bite-sized projects that qualify for financial assistance. Here’s a partial list.

  • Energy efficiency. A great first step in any energy project is tightening up your house by sealing and insulation, and by replacing old windows and doors. There is federal assistance for this, but it expires in December.
  • Heat pumps for heating and cooling. The biggest GHG emitter and energy user in your house is your heating and air conditioning system. If your system is getting toward the end of its life, replacing it with an efficient electric heat pump system is a great idea. At the Cool Davis workshop, you can ask experts about the different kinds of systems (central air vs. mini-split) and how they affect your energy bill and comfort level. There are federal tax credits for these, but they expire in December. There are also California rebates.
  • Heat pump water heaters. Likewise, if your water heater is leaking or just past its prime, consider replacing it with an energy-saving heat pump system. Heat pump water heaters come with somewhat larger storage tanks than gas heaters and need good air ventilation. At the Cool Davis workshop, you can find out whether your house has any installation issues, and about how the electrical hookups work. There is financial assistance available from both federal and state programs. The federal programs expire in December.
  • Solar power. With the federal tax credit expiring, is this the time for you to go solar? Come to the October workshop and learn more about costs, benefits to your electricity bill, and installation requirements. Federal assistance expires in December.
  • Whole house conversion. Are you ready to get off natural gas completely? That’s the gold standard in GHG emissions reduction and it doesn’t require solar. Depending on your house, you may need to replace your heater/AC system, water heater, dryer, and stove. As noted above, there are rebates for heat pumps and water heaters, but if you do the whole conversion and physically disconnect from the gas system, the state offers an additional $4250 incentive plus additional rebates for dryers, some types of stoves, and upgrades to your house’s electrical infrastructure. Complete conversion sounds like a big job, but it is do-able before December. You’ll want to talk things through with an expert. Come do that at the Make A Plan session.

See you there!
