Biking for Everyone

The Bike Campaign is committed to making biking an option for everyone, from young families to older populations. They promote family-friendly biking solutions, adaptive bikes for individuals with physical limitations, and “walking bikes” for those who can no longer ride. In collaboration with local senior service organizations, The Bike Campaign’s Tri-Shaw, allows  those with limited mobility to enjoy cycling experiences with their loved ones.

Meet the Director: Maria Contreras Tebbutt

The Bike Campaign’s founder and director, Maria Contreras Tebbutt, began The Bike Campaign with a passion for community health, seeing active transportation as a solution for environmental harm and as a way of keeping up with physical and mental wellbeing. Maria is an avid bike rider, a nationally certified cycling instructor, and Yolo County’s 2024 Climate Crisis Champion.

Maria’s community work has created more accessibility for Yolo County to embrace cycling as apart of an everyday lifestyle. Maria has pioneered Bike Skills Training programs in local elementary schools, embracing the role as an educator she says, “I have a huge soft spot in my heart for mentoring.” She also uplifts women in the community with group rides, “I’d have 20 women strung out behind me and then I rotated in other women to be the guide for the group. We have a natural, wonderful place to go.Maria hopes that with right guidance and education, cycling can be made available for everyone to commit to sustainable transportation.
