Week Without Driving! Next Week!
Are you ready for the Week Without Driving. Join your neighbors and friends from over 50 local organizations taking action!
Practice new things and new habits in transportation in solidarity with those how cannot drive or afford a car!
The Week Without Driving challenge was created so that those who have the option to drive can learn firsthand about the barriers and challenges that non-drivers face and work with non-drivers to create more accessible communities for all.
If you can drive or afford a car, you may not understand what it’s like to rely on walking, rolling, transit and asking for rides. But for nearly a third of people living in the United States – people with disabilities, young people, seniors and people who can’t afford cars or gas – this is our every day.
Ready to not drive on 1-80 to work. Let your Yolo Transit District or Capitol Corridor handle the driving for you.
With Climate impacts growing more people riding transit or their own bicycles is the only way we can fairly and completely reduce the emissions produced by our use of single occupancy vehicles.
There are so many resources in our community to help you!
- Get your Bike tuned up at Davis Bike Collective, Bike Campaign
- Check out Unitrans, YTD schedules and Yolo Commute’s many program options to support your getting around —
- Challenge your work friends to join you and get your employer to sign up for Yolo Commute benefits for you!
- Sign up for SPIN Ap and get going on your last mile transportation around town.
- Try the UCD Campus to Campus Causeway Connection or Capitol Corridor Train for your commute.

Cool Davis is hoping all our friends living in Rancho Yolo remain well! This is a reminder of our fragile grid and the need to look after each other during heat emergencies. Hurray that the City of Davis City now has Social Services staff to join City of Davis Fire Department to assist when a vulnerable neighborhood's power goes down.
For other down neighborhoods - remember to check on your neighbors! If your power is still on consider ways to reduce your energy use pre-cool , cover windows, delay appliance use, double up with neighbors in a cool location - cooling center (see City post for cooling center info), movie theater etc to reduce loads. After the emergency, move forward on your plans for how you will reduce and manage energy use in the future. We have to stand together to adapt to new climate challenges. Cool Davis and our many partners are here to help.
