Nominations Sought for 2024 Environmental Awards
The City of Davis is now accepting nominations for the 30th Annual Environmental Recognition Awards with a deadline of March 20, 2024. Nominations will be reviewed by the City’s Natural Resources Commission. Those selected will then be recommended to the City Council for a ceremonial presentation and reception on Tuesday, April 16, 2023.
Awards are given in three categories – business, individual/group, and non-profit organization. In addition, the Environmental Legacy Award recognizes events and programs that have made a significant difference in environmental quality of life in Davis over time.
Some criteria to be nominated include:
- Addressing a current environmental concern
- Establishing a record of achievements or actions benefiting the environment and quality of life in and around Davis
- Creatively implementing or developing an innovative project related to sustainability or the environment
- Setting an example of how to conduct business, set up a home environment, and/or live daily in a manner that encourages sustainability and harmony with nature
- Impacting others in the Davis community, through outreach, engagement or education efforts
“Environmental stewardship is a core value for Davis community members,” said Davis Mayor Josh Chapman. “Through the City’s Environmental Recognition Awards, now in their 30th year, we want to recognize organizations and individuals that contribute to sustainability in Davis. These awards honor those who have made strides to envision and implement sustainability actions in the community and to support the 2020-2040 Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP).”

Cool Davis is hoping all our friends living in Rancho Yolo remain well! This is a reminder of our fragile grid and the need to look after each other during heat emergencies. Hurray that the City of Davis City now has Social Services staff to join City of Davis Fire Department to assist when a vulnerable neighborhood's power goes down.
For other down neighborhoods - remember to check on your neighbors! If your power is still on consider ways to reduce your energy use pre-cool , cover windows, delay appliance use, double up with neighbors in a cool location - cooling center (see City post for cooling center info), movie theater etc to reduce loads. After the emergency, move forward on your plans for how you will reduce and manage energy use in the future. We have to stand together to adapt to new climate challenges. Cool Davis and our many partners are here to help.
