Emergency Preparedness Month: Listos California Resource Hub Launched
September is Emergency Preparedness month! Listos California would like to let you know that there’s no better time than now to make sure you are prepared and ready to play a part in helping your community stay safe.
Emergency Alert System: Big Picture and Local Sign Ups
During a disaster, you and members of your community want to know how to stay safe. When minutes matter, you need the latest, most reliable news. You need direct emergency alerts from local safety officials.
Listos California is soft launching ListosCalifornia.org/Alerts to help connect people to their local alerts systems based on a provided zip code or location. The resource also explains the meanings of common alerts, as well as identifying social media accounts associated with local government and first responders. Entering your Yolo County zip code will send you to the Sign up page for the Sacramento Region Emergency Alert System (for Sacramento, Yolo, and Placer counties). Sign up for alerts today!

INDIGENOUS LANGUAGE OUTREACH
In collaboration with community-based organizations, Listos California provides information about disaster preparedness to immigrant and farmworker communities in their native languages, including video and audio formats for speakers of Indigenous oral languages of Mexico and Central America.
COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (CERT) TRAINING
Register for a 20-hour FEMA certified Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training. The CERT program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, allowing them to focus on more complex tasks.

FIRST AID KIT FOR YOUR MIND
Listos California hopes to help people better understand and care for their mental health needs by empowering them with resources to teach what can be done to strengthen ourselves, our loved ones and our communities.
POWERED BY ART
Listos California is using partnerships with artists to reach communities with images that resonate with them. Images have the power to engage people and motivate behavioral change. Our artist collaborations are helping to interpret a new era of disaster preparedness and the steps that communities need to take to get ready.

Cool Davis is hoping all our friends living in Rancho Yolo remain well! This is a reminder of our fragile grid and the need to look after each other during heat emergencies. Hurray that the City of Davis City now has Social Services staff to join City of Davis Fire Department to assist when a vulnerable neighborhood's power goes down.
For other down neighborhoods - remember to check on your neighbors! If your power is still on consider ways to reduce your energy use pre-cool , cover windows, delay appliance use, double up with neighbors in a cool location - cooling center (see City post for cooling center info), movie theater etc to reduce loads. After the emergency, move forward on your plans for how you will reduce and manage energy use in the future. We have to stand together to adapt to new climate challenges. Cool Davis and our many partners are here to help.
