Bike Davis

Bike Davis is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit citizen group dedicated to promoting bicycling in Davis, California, through advocacy, education, encouragement, and design.

The bicycle is the official symbol of the City of Davis. We envision Davis as a city where bicycling is the priority mode of travel, and we are committed to challenging and inspiring the citizens of Davis to reconnect with nature and their neighbors in pursuit of better health, kindred community, and the pure joy of riding a bike. We envision a city that tirelessly promotes and preserves a comfortable, beautiful, and convenient bicycle network year-round for cyclists of all ages. We hope that the rich bicycle heritage in Davis will continue to distinguish us as the Bicycle Capital of America.

Loopalooza is a collaboration between Bike Davis, the Bike Campaign, and the Safe Routes to School Program at the City of Davis. Join Cool Davis for fun and refreshments at Station #9 at the Village Homes gazebo this Sunday, May 1st from 10am to 2pm! Read more here.

A message from Maria Contreras Tebbutt, Founder & Director The Bike Campaign

Hello bike fans,
Learning to ride a bike is an important milestone for kids. Kids who ride to school do better in school. Big progress is being made in meetings with DJUSD & WJUSD’s new Superintendents to integrate The Bike Campaign’s Bike Skills Training into all 2nd grade classes.  These discussions resulted in the following action steps: 1) Encourage “no” drop off or pick up directly in front of schools 2) Store fleets of training bikes 3) Bike Skills Training at all local elementary schools 4) Jr/Sr high student interns to repair/tune up school fleets at Bike Garage 5) Begin installation of new/secure/bike racks at schools this summer. We look forward to keeping you informed of progress on this big undertaking. Let the good times roll!

Street Smarts with the City of Davis

https://www.cityofdavis.org/city-hall/public-works-engineering-and-transportation/bike-pedestrian-program/street-smarts

Street Smarts is the Safe Routes to School program for the City of Davis–providing bicycle, pedestrian, and driver safety education. Our goal is to encourage walking and biking,  promote environmental and community health, and reduce traffic-related collisions and injuries. Our efforts target the leading problems:  speeding, distracted driving, and not following traffic safety rules like stop sign compliance and proper helmet use.

In addition to making our streets safer, Street Smarts promotes safe and fun forms of active transportation, and encourages you to ride a bike or walk whenever you can, and leave your car at home.

Fewer cars=safer streets! Plus, the less we use our cars, the less we pollute the air; and clean air means a healthier planet.

So strap on your helmet, get out your walking shoes, and let’s hit the streets…the smart way!
