The Bike Campaign’s mission to spread the joys of cycling began, helping riders with skills training, bikes, and repairs is rolling forward. This fall, we are introducing a new program, a new chapter in Davis of Cycling Without Age (CWA), an international organization with over 50 chapters worldwide.

3 DATES TO SEE THE DAVIS TRISHAW IN PERSON IN OCTOBER!

• Sun. Oct. 3, 11am-2pm at Central Park, Davis – EVs@thePavilion

• Wed. Oct. 6, 3-5pm, at Rancho Yolo Mobile Home Park – Clubhouse, 620 Poleline Rd, Davis

• Sun. Oct. 31, 12-3pm – at the Zombie Bike Ride on the Davis Bike Loop

CWA will bring cycling joy to seniors, people with disabilities, and others who are unable to ride their own bike. See www.cyclingwithoutage.org, whose motto is to give everyone the right to wind in their hair. Our local programs called “On-a-Roll”, to keep our seniors rolling along with everyone else in Davis!

With a grant provided by the Yolo Solano Air Quality Management District, private funding from Davis Community Church and contributions from The Bike Campaign, a beautiful Dutch trishaw called the “Chat” by Von Raam has been ordered and will be in Davis by this fall!

This program will train volunteer “pilots” who will provide the rides for seniors. The “Chat” electric-assist trishaw that we have ordered is developed by the Dutch company Van Raam. The Chat is a 3-wheeled electric-assist cycle, where two people are seated in the front of the pilot, who pedals and can easily chat with the riders. The Cycling without Age experience is often very special as much for the pilot as the rider, as they can share stories with seniors who may have memories of Davis and cycling that they don’t often have opportunities to share.

Pilot training will begin in September and then start offering rides to seniors in Davis. Each pilot shift is about two hours.
