Cool Davis Welcomes Lisa Baker to Our Board of Directors!
Cool Davis welcomes Lisa Baker to our board of directors! Lisa has served several roles with Cool Davis over the years and is now returning to inform our efforts with her unique combination of lived experience and professional expertise.
Lisa is a bit of a rock star, receiving several awards of late. In 2019 alone, she received one of a small collection of California Congressional District 3 Woman of the Year awards presented by Congressman John Garamendi, a Women’s Caucus of the League of California Cities Women of Persistence award, and a CEO Today USA award.
Lisa also won an Eco Hero award from Cool Davis in 2016 and has served on our Council of Advisors for several years, in addition to a short stint as Cool Davis Coalition chair.
We welcome your interest in becoming a Cool Davis advisor or board member. Email info@cooldavis.org with your inquiry, experience, expertise, and ability to commit.
Tireless advocate working at the forefront
Lisa’s California Congressional District Woman of the Year award put it very well:
“Lisa Baker is a tireless advocate working at the forefront of some of the most pressing issues facing her community. Her activism encompasses issues such as housing, social equality, and climate change. Her efforts to provide affordable housing, connect residents with social services, improve social equity, and address issues related to climate change have had a profound and positive impact on our district
As CEO of the Yolo County Housing Authority, Lisa works tirelessly to realize the organization’s mission of working to provide quality affordable housing and community development services for all. Her organization and its allies provide essential services that meet the needs of thousands of underprivileged households throughout Yolo and Solano counties. Under her leadership, the Yolo County Housing Authority works with community partners to combat homelessness and does innovative work on climate resiliency.
Over the years, her organization [Yolo County Housing] has earned numerous national recognitions, and last year won the City of Davis Environmental Special Recognition (see below) award for ongoing work in sustainability and equity. Beyond her groundbreaking work in building climate resiliency and sustainability into affordable housing, Lisa lends her time and expertise to a variety of community organizations. She is Vice Chair of the Winters Planning Commission, serves on the Citizen Advisory Committee for the Yolo County Transportation District, is a member of the Cool Davis Council of Advisors, serves on the Prop 47 Steering Committee, and is a member of the Yolo Resilience Collaborative. She is also a member of a number of statewide and national organizations focused on advocating for affordable housing in underserved communities.
Lisa’s passion for public service and positive impact on her community cannot be overstated.”
Cool Davis is super appreciative for Lisa’s dedication and willingness to make time for the Cool Davis mission!

Cool Davis is hoping all our friends living in Rancho Yolo remain well! This is a reminder of our fragile grid and the need to look after each other during heat emergencies. Hurray that the City of Davis City now has Social Services staff to join City of Davis Fire Department to assist when a vulnerable neighborhood's power goes down.
For other down neighborhoods - remember to check on your neighbors! If your power is still on consider ways to reduce your energy use pre-cool , cover windows, delay appliance use, double up with neighbors in a cool location - cooling center (see City post for cooling center info), movie theater etc to reduce loads. After the emergency, move forward on your plans for how you will reduce and manage energy use in the future. We have to stand together to adapt to new climate challenges. Cool Davis and our many partners are here to help.
