Cool Davis Festival is great for families!

The Cool Davis Festival on Sunday October 16  is family-friendly! Activities for children are woven throughout the exhibits.

Outside, young bicyclists can participate in the popular bike rodeo sponsored by Davis Bicycles! They’ll provide a basic check for helmet safety and brakes, teach simple hand signals, and let kids compete in an obstacle course. Kids will also love trying out some of the Whymsycle bike creations, amazing bikes made of recycled parts, as well as some of the other bike exhibits.

Last year the theater was packed for the original Nature’s Theater interactive drama, In Search of King Carbon. This year, Nature’s Theater is back with a new participatory drama in keeping with the theme of health and food. Junky’s Last Stand is about two girls who learn how to avoid falling into the common addiction to junk food with the help of Tommy Zucchini and the audience.

In the courtyard kids will find all sorts of fun activities including face painting, games about marine life and the problems presented by plastic waste, making puppets from recycled materials, and art projects.

In the MP room, kids can help their parents figure out their carbon footprint at the Cool California table. Of course it’s up to the kids to keep their parents on track following the Adventure Game from exhibit to exhibit, answering the questions, and making sure their tickets make it into the drawing.

Who can resist free food samples including pizza supporting the Farm to School program. And Fat Face Popsicles will be on hand with her $2.50 frozen treats made from healthy, seasonal fruits and vegetables. Yum!

The changes we make in our habits now will mean our children will live in a more sustainable world. Or is it our children who will teach us to tread more lightly on the earth, as we work together toward a livable environment?
