Earth Month is here, and across Davis and our region, there are so many ways to come together, learn, and take action for a healthier planet. Whether you’re looking to get your hands in the soil, enjoy local food and music, or connect with others who care about sustainability, there’s something for everyone this April—and beyond.

Here are a few highlights, in the order they’re happening:

All Month Long: Earth Day at UC Davis

At University of California, Davis, Earth Day is truly a month-long celebration. Throughout April, the campus comes alive with events that explore sustainability from many angles—environmental, social, and community-focused.

You can join in for:

  • Weed Out Stress volunteer days in the Arboretum
  • A range of talks, panels, and the Decarbonization Symposium
  • The Sheep Shift community art project (April 16–17)
  • The Earth Week Waste Audit (April 21)
  • Earth Day tours and the Food–People–Planet symposium (April 22)
  • The SDG Symposium (April 30)

Whether you drop in for one event or several, it’s a great way to connect with the work happening right here in our community.

Regrettably, the Cool Davis/Cool Cuisine Picnic in the Park is cancelled due to rain.
We hope to plan another Wednesday picnic with Cool Cuisine in the next few months!

Every Wednesday: Picnic in the Park (Starting April 1)

Picnic in the Park is back—marking the return of one of Davis’s most loved traditions. Starting Wednesday, April 1, and continuing all summer, the Davis Farmers Market transforms Central Park into a lively midweek gathering space.

Wednesday, April 22 | 4:00 – 8:00 PM | Central Park – Main Lawn; North West Corner

Celebrate Earth Day with the Cool Davis Coalition and Cool Cuisine at Picnic in the Park. Learn more about this event here.

Earth’s Greatest Enemy Free Film Screening – April 18th, from 3:00-5:00 pm. Virtual Q & A with Abby Martin

Location of the film screening: American Lutheran Church, 1114 College St, Woodland, CA 95695.

Join the group Woodland for Peace (W4P) for a nicely themed Earth Day film. A documentary exposé of the world’s biggest–and most unaccountable–polluter: the US military. Learn the environmental cost of having a military Empire with director Abby Martin. Abby Martin also made the film Gaza Fights for Freedom. This event will include a virtual Q&A with director Abby Martin after the film and a brief presentation before the film with Nick Buxton, a Davis resident and author of The Secure and the Dispossessed: How the military and corporations are shaping a climate changed world (Pluto books).

There will be free light snacks and refreshments!

Sunday, April 26: Sacramento Earth Day

Just a short trip away, Sacramento Earth Day returns to Southside Park on Sunday, April 26 (11 AM – 4 PM).

This year’s theme, “Water We Waiting for?”, invites us to think about how we use and protect one of our most vital resources. The event includes:

  • Interactive exhibits and workshops
  • Activities for all ages
  • Opportunities to meet local organizations and learn about their work

It’s a welcoming, family-friendly space to explore big ideas and practical actions we can take together.

May 8–10: Whole Earth Festival at UC Davis

A longtime Davis tradition, the Whole Earth Festival returns to the UC Davis Quad over Mother’s Day weekend (May 8–10, 2026).

What began as a student art project in 1969 has grown into a vibrant, free, student-run festival that draws the whole community. Expect:

  • Live music and performances
  • Local artisans and handmade goods
  • Workshops and hands-on learning
  • A creative, welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere

The festival is also proudly zero-waste, with a strong focus on sustainability in action.

Get Involved

Earth Month is a chance to reconnect—with the land, with each other, and with the small everyday actions that make a difference. Attend an event, bring a friend, volunteer, or simply spend time learning something new.

We hope to see you out in the community this Earth Month.
