What does your future Davis look like?
On December 7th, Davis Community Action Network hosted “What does your future Davis look like?” – the first in a series of community learning events focused on city planning, climate, and housing issues. Over 80 participants of all ages joined in for a community-centered visioning process and shared learning on the basics of city planning before diving into defining their own ideal future Davis.
The event coincided with the release of ten new informational resources written by DCAN’s volunteer policy team on planning topics which included contributors from across its partner organizations.
- These resources can be found here at https://www.daviscan.org/resources-1.
- The slides and handouts are also available on the website for those that missed it!
DCAN and its partners provided trained facilitators at each table to support respectful dialogue and answer questions. Participant discussions emphasized affordability and housing for all life stages, walkability, transit access, green space, strong schools, and neighborhood livability. The event culminated in a focus on civic participation in the upcoming General Plan revision process, helping translate shared values and insights into concrete next steps for shaping Davis’s future together. Stay tuned for more events on climate and housing coming up in the spring!

Last September, the Davis Community Action Network (DCAN) in partnership with Cool Davis, Davis League of Women Voters, the Davis Planning group, Interfaith Housing Justice Davis, and HEART launched a collaborative community engagement series. Each three-month cycle focuses on a specific topic with the first three quarters covering Community Design & City Planning, Climate Ready Davis, and Housing. The DCAN teams and their partners work in sync toward education, engagement, and action. Engagement activities are designed to provide community learning opportunities that directly tie to civic engagement- such as the General Plan and other planning processes hosted separately by the city. More information will be coming soon about the next series on Climate Ready Davis. Email DCAN here: info@daviscan.org — to make sure you get included in those activities.
