Communication & connection are essential to local climate action!
Communication and connection are essential to local climate action! As the President of the Board of Cool Davis, I am proud to stand with you, our friends in the neighborhoods and communities within Davis and Yolo County. You are the households making change and the passionate groups within our Coalition as well as with our partners leading local action on climate. Our new mission and vision and Strategic Plan goals drive us to reach deeper commitments and to build resilience at neighborhood level, connecting across communities.
My family moved to Davis in 2011. We love living here because of the community we joined. Davis and Yolo County give back to us, in safety, support, healthy food and exercise options, great schools and more. I am happy to give my time and money to Cool Davis because I know that I am investing in our community here in Davis and beyond, which supports others in so many ways.
Looking at Cool Davis, I am impressed with how, as an organization, we have leveraged our early investments in tools to support our mission, like our electronic newsletters and surveys, that communicate useful knowledge from our Partners and Coalition to our thousands of readers and donors.
Professionally, I am fortunate to be responsible for building new tools and setup systems for organizations to solve problems and strengthen access to information. And as a board member, I am enjoying applying these same skills to guide Cool Davis in its next chapter. One thing I have learned over the years is that new technology, like AI, affects existing tools and systems and that any tool or system requires ongoing maintenance. Cool Davis and other nonprofits rely heavily on technology and tools to simplify information and resource sharing and volunteer and event coordination. These tools are critical to our success.
As Cool Davis looks to the future, we have identified new investments to update our systems and tools to increase our impact to and support of different communities as they adapt to climate change as well as to strengthen Cool Davis’s core functions. We need your support to increase our investment in a variety of flexible data management and communication tools that support multiple languages and mediums. We have established a Communications Equity Fund to raise at least $15,000 to meet our systems and tools investments. Your support and donation can make a huge impact on our investment. Consider giving now to this fund!
Each of us has a story of why and how we are working toward a more sustainable community. We at Cool Davis are grateful for all your actions. Join us in telling your story, inspiring and encouraging others and investing in a resilient future for all!
Thank you for all you do!
