Cool Davis and DEVA at Picnic Day Parade and EV Exhibit
Cool Davis and the Davis Electric Vehicle Association(DEVA) had an enthusiastic presence at Picnic Day Parade this year. Members from across the community including the Raging Grannies, International House, and Davis City Council members showed up in celebration!
DEVA members tailed the Cool Davis parade group in their EVs which included the Fisker Ocean, Mazda MX-30, Chevy Bolt, Tesla Roadster, and the Tesla Cyber Truck!
Concurrently, the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies(ITS) collaborated with Cool Davis and DEVA to host an EV exhibit at the UC Davis Alumni Center. Attendees learned all about EV ownership/charging and transportation research from ITS. The EV models on display were a Hyundai Ioniq 5, Rivian R1, Tesla Roadster, VW e-Golf, and a 1974 Triumph Spitfire EV conversion.
Picnic Day 2024 was abundant with learning opportunities for all things sustainability, electric vehicles, and transportation!

Cool Davis is hoping all our friends living in Rancho Yolo remain well! This is a reminder of our fragile grid and the need to look after each other during heat emergencies. Hurray that the City of Davis City now has Social Services staff to join City of Davis Fire Department to assist when a vulnerable neighborhood's power goes down.
For other down neighborhoods - remember to check on your neighbors! If your power is still on consider ways to reduce your energy use pre-cool , cover windows, delay appliance use, double up with neighbors in a cool location - cooling center (see City post for cooling center info), movie theater etc to reduce loads. After the emergency, move forward on your plans for how you will reduce and manage energy use in the future. We have to stand together to adapt to new climate challenges. Cool Davis and our many partners are here to help.
