Celebrate 40 Years of Recycling! Come to a Workshop!
The Davis Recycling Program turns 40 this year! Thank you for participating in 40 years of curbside recycling here in Davis!
To celebrate, the City is offering a series of workshops on recycling, waste reduction, composting and more. To show gratitude for all your efforts of recycling and reducing waste, they will be offering prizes to guests that RSVP and attend these workshops! July 2014 Workshop Flier.
Composting – Tuesday, July 22 at 6:00 p.m.
Learn the basics about creating your own active compost pile! This workshop will also place a great emphasis on simple ways of composting food scraps. Class attendees can enter to win kitchen food scrap collection pails and worm castings.
Reducing Toxics in our Environment – Thursday, July 24 at 6:00 p.m.
Believe it or not, our homes contain a surprising number of materials and products that are considered toxic. Learn how to identify, properly dispose of and reduce the toxic substances that we come into contact with on a daily basis. Class attendees can enter to win toxic-free cleaning kits and worm castings.
All classes will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Center Game Room, 203 East 14th Street.
RSVP in advance to increase your chances of winning a prize! Guests can RSVP on Facebook.com/DavisRecycling.org/Events , can email PWWeb@CityofDavis.org , or contact Jennifer Gilbert with the City Recycling Program at (530)-757-5688.

Cool Davis is hoping all our friends living in Rancho Yolo remain well! This is a reminder of our fragile grid and the need to look after each other during heat emergencies. Hurray that the City of Davis City now has Social Services staff to join City of Davis Fire Department to assist when a vulnerable neighborhood's power goes down.
For other down neighborhoods - remember to check on your neighbors! If your power is still on consider ways to reduce your energy use pre-cool , cover windows, delay appliance use, double up with neighbors in a cool location - cooling center (see City post for cooling center info), movie theater etc to reduce loads. After the emergency, move forward on your plans for how you will reduce and manage energy use in the future. We have to stand together to adapt to new climate challenges. Cool Davis and our many partners are here to help.
