Sacramento July 11th, March for Separation of Oil & State

“Separation of Oil & State: Follow the Money,” a march that exposes the connections between government and oil lobbyists, will take place on Thursday, July 11 from noon to 1:00 p.m. in downtown Sacramento. Organizers from 350 Sacramento and Stop Fooling CA will create a human oil slick to raise awareness about the impact of the oil lobby on government. Additional participants are welcome!
Oil industry lobbyists spent more than $25.5 million lobbying last year just in California. According to Oil Change International, the oil industry receives between $10 and $50 billion in government subsidies every year.
“This (lobbying) money buys our representatives’ approval to take all oil out of the ground by any means, including fracking and tar sands, no matter the cost to our environment,” says Megan Elsea, a march organizer. “If we continue to invest in fossil fuels instead of green energy, our climate will soon become unlivable!”

The march is in spirit with the nationwide “Summer Heat” campaign against the fossil fuel industry sponsored by 350.org. It will start at the north steps of the California state capitol at noon on Thursday, July 11 and move as a human oil slick past oil lobbyists’ offices and the federal building. Participants are encouraged to wear black hats or bring black umbrellas. The march will be lawful and non-violent.
