CCE picCalifornia’s two operating community choice energy programs will keynote a public forum on Davis’ energy choices on Thursday, April 23, 2015, beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the Community Chambers at City Hall, 23 Russell Boulevard. The forum is free and registration is not required.

The City of Davis is evaluating community choice energy. The goal of the workshop is to educate the public about community choice energy and to receive feedback for the City Council. The workshop will be telecast on the government channel and on the internet at http://davis.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=2.

Dawn Weisz, CEO of Marin Clean Energy, and Geof Syphers, CEO of Sonoma Clean Power, will share their experiences in starting and administering California’s first community choice energy programs. State law authorizes cities and counties to purchase electricity on behalf of their residents and businesses, with the existing utility continuing to provide billing, meter reading and other services.
Weisz and Syphers will talk about the renewable and green energy options, as well as the pricing structure in their communities. They will also share information about the challenges the programs encountered in their development.

The City Council appointed, Community Choice Energy Advisory Committee, is charged with studying the subject and making recommendations to the City Council by the end of May about whether and how to move forward with community choice energy.

The workshop is a part of the Committee’s ongoing effort to engage the community and solicit questions and concerns. Pros and cons of various alternatives, including the status quo (remaining with PG&E) and different community choice energy options, will be covered.
