WHAT: Topic for Week 6 (May 23) Energy

Lorenzo Kristov, former principal for the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), will speak about Community Choice Energy and microgrids. Lorenzo will address our energy future in Davis from the perspective of independence, resilience, and renewable sources. In particular, he can address questions around our new electricity utility, Valley Clean Energy.

Julia Jones is our City of Davis Urban Forest supervisor as part of the Urban Forestry Division, a Tree Davis board member, and an ordained minister of trees, will promote the use of trees for parking lot shade even as VCE suggests solar panels for easy shade. WHAT: Topic for Week 7 (May 30) Well-Being: Community and Health

Sara DeLaney will share some of the impacts of climate change on our health as our region experiences longer and hotter summers with more extreme heat events and air quality challenges, and new diseases arrive.

Sara is a Clean Energy Nurse Coordinator for the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments. She is a public health nurse with a Master’s in Nursing and Public Health and six years of experience in providing clinical and preventive health care in underserved, community-based settings. Interests include functional medicine, HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention, health policy, and environmental health. Sara is motivated by a desire to promote social justice, improve health, and eliminate disparities among vulnerable and underserved populations.
