This project group has been set up to coordinate Cool Davis’ involvement in the Cool California project in 2012 and the Cool City challenge in 2013.
The CoolCalifornia Community Challenge has the potential to help Cool Davis reach more segments of the Davis community, engage them in reducing their greenhouse emissions, and further the mission of both Cool Davis and the CoolCalifornia Challenge.

What ever happened to the Cool Davis Challenge? Lots of taxpayer funded support and publicity, then a big fizzle. I went on the Vanguard and posted about how excited I was to get on board and how everybody should sign up. Then I went on line, three times, only to be informed that there was a technical glitch.
So is this just going to be another City of Davis Environmental Publicity Stunt, or is something concrete actually going to eventually occur? Roger
Dear Roger:
Thank you for your active support and patience for the work that our all volunteer, non-profit, Cool Davis Initiative/Foundation is doing to implement the City of Davis climate action goals.
In February, the City of Davis and the Cool Davis Initiative signed up to participate in the Cool California Challenge (a project of the Renewable and Alternative Energy Laboratory at U.C. Berkeley).
Since April 1, they (Cool California) have run into technical difficulties, and we are waiting to do any more promotion in our community until their fixes are completed. Once the website is ready, we hope to continue with engaging Davis households to get an initial snap shot of our current household practices.
We will be notifying participants and the whole community about next steps in the next few days. The competition runs through July 31st. There are now 10 cities in the competition.
Please note the Cool Davis Initiative goals are much bigger and longer term than participating in this simple, fun competition with Cool California. We have our own projects and programs going in the Davis community, and we would love to have your participation.
