Call of the Wolf: An Earth Day Celebration

Enter a wolf’s world on Sunday, April 27th from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Theater, 203 E. 14th Street. Suggested donations: $10 adults, $5 children.

Cool Davis invites the public to celebrate to Earth Day with “Call of the Wolf” featuring professional story-teller Tom Wade followed by “Journey: Dance, Music and Poetry.” The striking dance piece, performed by Ecokinesis Dance Company and Crane Culture Theater tells the remarkable story of the wolf that first visited California a few years ago. The program has been performed in Sacramento to rave reviews.

With Supervisor Don Saylor as M.C., the Earth Day celebration also includes the presentation of the Cool Davis 2014 Eco-Hero and Climate Solution Awards for individuals and groups or organizations that have made significant contributions to reduce their carbon footprints in the areas of Transportation, Consumption, or Built energy.

Enter a wolf’s world

People, who spend time with wolves, come away impressed by their friendliness and playfulness. Tom Wade brings this side of wolves to life, sharing tales of their generosity, intelligence and uncanny intuition. Tom is a talented storyteller who resides beyond electricity and running water, and who, like the wolves, often relies on ravens for direction and guidance.

The Ecokinesis Dance Company and Crane Culture Theater share a remarkable story of a lone wolf who came into California a few years ago with a blend of environment, art and dance traditions, and science. Sonja Brodt choreographed the dance in which she (the wolf visitor) and Lindsay Rubin (a variety of other forest creatures) perform to the fitting percussion and flute music of Meri Superak. While Bruce Forman narrates the story, their dance captures the experience of the wolf with all the grace, cunning, exuberance, weariness, loneliness and triumph of a solitary animal making his way in the wilderness. The audience is lifted to a new understanding and appreciation of the natural environment that sustains us all. Both performances are suitable for ages 9 and up.

A reception and ways to take action

After the program all are invited to a reception in honor both the performers and the award recipients. There will be opportunities to sign up as a Cool Home, or browse the Take Action tables for ways to reduce your carbon footprint and address climate change.

Guests who walk, bike or ride the bus earn a chance to win a cool prize! We thank our sponsors: Cool Davis Foundation, City of Davis, Dos Coyotes, Rec Solar, and Mars, Inc.
